Film Is Not Dead

Not wind, not rain, not even a case of crazy-awful-knock-me-flat-on-my-back food poisoning kept me from enjoying my FIND experience. Even with everything that went wrong with me during the week…I came away from the FIND workshop with a renewed passion for this art form we call photography.

Why do pictures speak to us? Why are we photographers? One of my favorite quotes is by a fellow photographer, Ansel Adams. Mr. Adams said “Life is your art. An open, aware heart is your camera. A oneness with your world is your film. Your bright eyes and easy smile is your museum.” We all see the world a certain way…and we as photographers, we are lucky and blessed enough to be able to share what we see with others. Jon’s passion for how he sees the world is infectious and inspiring. He breathes life into his work. I hope someday I can be that kind of photographer too.

Find Yourself in Film...

I've started to dip my toes back into the world of film...and let me tell you, it is GREAT.

I'm attending this workshop this fall, and am beyond excited. Before I go, I'm going to dust off my rusty film skills and practice a bit with a little help from Mr. Canlas, and his awesome new book "Film is Not Dead: A Digital Photographer's Guide to Shooting Film".

If you've always wanted to give film a try, but don't quite know where to start, I suggest you run right on out and get yourself this handy dandy guide. Go, and find yourself in film:)

An Eagle Scout

My not-so-little-anymore brother worked very hard to complete his Eagle Scout project this past December. He collected over 5,000 books for Primary Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, a place he's spent a LOT of time in his whole life. What a great way to give back! I'm proud of you Taylor :)

Until We Meet Again...

My friend JoAnn passed away unexpectedly last Saturday. I've only known JoAnn for a few years now, but she left a big impression on my life. This past Thanksgiving, she and I sat down for a few hours and chatted about photography. She was so excited to learn about her camera! She was so kind in complementing my work. She said she could see "life". That is the kindest thing anyone could say about my work. Photography really isn't about taking a pretty picture...it's about capturing life.

I share these images in hope that I can share a bit of her life with you, as family and friends came together to celebrate hers. She was a loving wife. She was a mother of 14. She made awesome lunches. She was a valiant follower of Christ. She always thought of others before she thought of herself. She loved everyone (even two transplanted girls who joined her family for Thanksgiving). She was greatly loved, and she will be greatly missed. I am so grateful that families can be together forever, and that we'll see her again! What strength and peace that brings! So, until we meet again...

It's no secret that I love all things vintage. One of my favorite things to do when I come home is to hit up all the antique shops and see what treasures I can find. Awesome finds this trip include some rad earings, a handbag, and an evening dress from the 40's that i'm debating on buying...pretty successful I'd say.
